What will you wear this winter? With constant chatter about trends and must-buys, drilling down to the very real predicament of how we will actually put outfits together can sometimes be a piece of the jigsaw which remains missing long into the season. You have the great skirt, the lovely coat and the eff-off shoes but put them together and there’s no guarantee that they will fall together into a great ensemble.
Coach’s first-ever ready-to-wear line from Stuart Vevers solves this problem. Yes, there are some divine individual pieces but as you see from the images which I’ve interspersed with the product shots below, there’s a total look going on which is functional, wearable, easy but massively cool too. Vevers joined Coach from Loewe last year and has set about giving the accessories brand a big dose of fashion love, most notably by introducing clothes into the mix. He’s worked with stylist Karl Templer to come up with a really definite look- one glance and you know that’s a Coach girl, or at least it’s clear that’s the journey they’re embarking on here.
I love the way that Vevers describes how he put this collection together; “I imagined a journey that started in Coach’s native New York, a road trip around America where our girl finds unique, charming pieces and then puts her look together back in New York so it maintained a cool, urban attitude”. It’s a clever spin on that idea of clothes taking on a new identity in different places- a cotton summer dress is carefree with bare feet on the beach but looks equally lovely, though wildly different, with boots and a furry coat back in the city for Autumn.
So what is so great about this new Coach, most of which is available at Net-a-Porter now? There’s wit in the Apollo jumper, 70s luxe in the Del-Boy coats and something awkwardly appealing about the cosy-lined boots. Put it all together though and you have a totally brilliant template for an Autumn look, ta da!
The collection is online now at Net-a-Porter and in store at Coach’s New Bond Street flagship from 15th September
