LFW has the international glamour of Tom Ford, the excitement of NEWGEN and Fashion East and the commercial gloss of Topshop; whip them altogether and you kind of get… Burberry. So it was appropriate that as the spiritual lovechild of all these elements, SS15 was called The Birds and the Bees. This is possibly the most star-studded show of the week- yesterday, it was the Cara and Kate love-in which stole the day- but always promotes a fresh musical talent (that was James Bay and his acoustic guitar set ) and while the clothes are very much of the designer ilk, they are still instantly shoppable via Burberry.com. Christopher Bailey, the company’s combined CEO and CCO, has clearly had his eye on the huge fashion shift towards flat, sporty, practical shoes and wants to get the Burberry tills ringing along with the lucrative action. And so, SS15 feels more casual than ever before with jazzed up jackets to accompany those flats.
Here are Melanie’s thought, as reported for the LFW paper, The Daily
“Burberry is and has always been resolutely about the trench coat. At Burberry Prorsum’s show yesterday though, the trench was overlaid by a denim jacket, and the latter’s stitched styling, angled pocket placement and general shrug on and go radicalness won the day. In a show entitled “The Birds and the Bees” with James Bay playing live, Burberry SS15 can be condensed thus; a) a tricked up collage print trench coat, belted with jewel bright chiffon and worn over pretty abstract floral dresses, b) an indigo denim curvilinear jacket with fluffy shearling peeping from the hem over pretty sequin pencil skirts or layered pink tulle dresses; c) a denim jacket vibed trench coat with a glossy collar and pockets. Throw in launches for Burberry Beauty’s new colours, “Field” sneakers and sandals, and new Burberry “Bee” bag and you have the perfect formula for a global brand to thrive in the digital spotlight.”
Sadly, those shoes aren’t available for pre-order just yet but if it’s a jacket or coat you’re after then there’s a plethora of fun ones to choose from on the dedicated e-commerce tab. Yesterday was also the first time that keen Burberry customers could order their Burberry beauty goodies via the one-click tweet-to-buy button while other digital savviness included a partnership with Youtube where users can weave through all facets of the collection by clicking on pop-ups. Begin with the video below and you look through to the show’s inspirations, Instagram posts from attendees and much more. In the meantime, here are the coolest jackets and bags to pre-order before 29th September- they even come complete with personalised metal tags. They’ve thought of everything, haven’t they?
